Graduating Summa cum
Laude with a Masters Degree in Library Science coupled with my experience as a secondary-level school librarian, I have a
proven track record of versatility in the library, classroom, and personal academic accomplishment. Academic accomplishment combined with community service has
been important to me since childhood. I began volunteering for the Reading
Public Library in 1981- I was 8 years old. I’ve
been the recipient of many academic honorsranging from graduating Silver Eagle in High School through Undergraduate Dean’s
List recognition, to being selected for membership in the Alpha Lambda Epsilon academic fraternity on the Graduate level.
I possess excellent communication skills, which enable
me to work well with diverse populations within and outside of the school community.
I am able to effectively manage library personnel, volunteers, and library resources while teaching individuals of
varying talents. I have managed all aspects of the library including creating
and presenting lessons on information literacy, curriculum design and development, coordinating and training volunteers, circulation
desk administration, inventory control, library security, budgeting, requisitions, fundraising, overseeing and implementing
technology, and providing prompt technical support.
With regards to student instruction, I’ve been
told from early on that I have very strong classroom management skills. I like
for my students to understand expectations prior to beginning work in the library. While
instructing students, I use a variety of teaching and presentation tools to enhance and share information through print, media
and technology mediums. This makes learning fun and addresses many learning styles. I have hosted in-service training for colleagues and administrators in addition to
teaching students of all age groups and talents
As a result of a strong Anthropology background and
specialized coursework in leadership, behavior management, and student motivation I recognize the value of mutual respect
and cultural understanding. I have seen first- hand how we are a global community
and how productive people can be when working together toward common goals. I
heartily believe in leading by example. One can not expect people to just do
as they are told; they will emulate their leaders. Life- long learning and leading
by example are important concepts I follow in my everyday life.
