Constantly on the go participating in many activities that center
around libraries, people, and service my hobbies include: researching ancient history and mythology, interior decorating,
reading novels, sharing and enjoying life with my family and friends, listening to dance music, the theater and the arts,
working out at the gym, baking yummy confections, and meeting new people!

A strong arts background was only the beginning...

"If you can do the arts, you can do anything!"
That principle has helped me build a strong foundation for my life. My experience with the arts began with extra-curricular
enrichment, which helped my mind grow academically; it then expanded to service and leadership adventures.
As a young person I participated in six years of formal dance lessons, eight years of piano, five years of flute, two years
of ceramics, seven years of girl scouting (with heavy emphasis on arts, crafts and service), eight years of band, eight years
of vocal, six years of orchestra, and one year of theater! I was the featured
pianist and a vocal soloist many times with my school Chorus. I was also the
understudy for the female lead in my senior musical in addition to another solo part.
The arts gave me the opportunity to explore my creativity and talents, helped me to achieve academically, and be a
leader.
Adventures in Leadership
Leadership and service roles have been abundant in my life. Beginning with roles in the Girl Scouts, I was encouraged
to take initiative and lead while also helping people. I've served my community many ways: Student Council and Sorority based service outreach and philanthropy programs, Youth to Youth/BTI, German
Club, and SADD are just a few. I've hosted German Exchange Students, and have been an exchange student abroad myself.
When I went to college I was selected to participate in the Emerging Leaders Program which was specialized leadership training
for only a handful of incoming freshmen. My Sorority (ADPi) named me as their sprit chairwoman, to spread good cheer
amongst our sisterhood. They also elected me as their representative to the Pan-Hellenic Advisory Committee at the University
of Pittsburgh. While teaching, I served on the Jacksonwald Learning Center
School Board, advised a chapter of Amnesty International, raised money for the American Cancer Society, led teacher in- service
training, managed and facilitated a community- based volunteer program, administered multiple book fairs, and run my own library
club. Presently, I volunteer my time in the school district I live in. I
am the Co- Chair for the School Store, I volunteer within the school as needed (classroom, health room, etc.), APT, and Music
Association.

Busy- Busy- Busy!
The arts provided me with confidence. My parents provided me with support and opportunities. At
my mother's insistence I became one of the youngest volunteers at the Reading Public Library. That was in 1981, I was
8 years old! From that point on I volunteered in my school libraries until I was 15. Because of the restrictions
of my school schedule (it was packed with academic classes) I was unable to volunteer in my High School Library.
Library assistants were permitted to help during study halls only-- I didn't have any study halls, in fact, I didn't even
have a scheduled lunch! The restrictions of my school schedule didn’t seem to matter in developing a positive
relationship with my high school librarian! She’s one of the most dynamic
and inspiring people I know and has been amazingly influential in my life!

Student Councils? Yes, more than one.
In
high school I decided to serve my classmates as their elected representative to the EHS Student Council. I was then elected to represent my school in a county-based student council. The county-based student
council elected me their representative to Pro- Kids of Berks County
(non-profit organization focused on social issues facing children and teens). In
addition to those roles, I was also selected to participate in three annual state
student council conventions, lobby in Harrisburg as a student representative three consecutive years, and was the only student
from my school chosen to attend the Albright College Summer Enrichment Program for Talented High School Students Summer International
Studies Program.
Youth- to- Youth/ BTI
Because of my invovement in student council, I was intorduced
to a fellow student who invited me to join an orgnization called Youth to Youth/ Berks Teen Institue. This expeience
changed my life. It tied together the arts and leadership, added elements of persoal empowerment and responsitility,
and most importantly, it intorduced me to teaching. Youth to Youth/BTI was a program similar to DARE, however
it took it one step further; its fundamental concept was that small students look up to older students as role models.
Who better to teach them the life skills of "saying no to drugs, alcohol, abuse and peer pressure" than the teenagers in their
home town? Youth to Yoth /BTI members participated in training sessions at the Berks Teen Institue so they could then
go into the classroom and teach elemenatary aged students "refusal skills." We'd dress in our Varsity Letters,
or Music/ Arts jackets and go into the classrooms and teach the studetns while adding age appropriate anecdotes and
role-playing scenarios. Every time I went into one of these teaching sessions, I was approached by one or more of the
teachers, who would tell me that I needed to pursue a career in teaching. I ejoyed Youth to Youth/BTI so much I was
my school's chapter president for 2 years.

A few of my favorite things, just for fun...
My Favorite Book:
Stephenie Meyer's Twilight. There has been no other, before or since. (My students would ask me what my favorite book was, and I'd tell them that there
were too many great books around to just pick one above the rest. And then Twilight
came along. I read it and thought it was nice, however a pattern began: every time I was feeling sad, or happy,
or bored, I'd find myself reaching for Twilight.) Personally, I think there is something
just plain magical and charming in Edward and Bella's tale of true love.

My Favorite Flim:
The Count of Monte Cristo. (The
version with Richard Harris.) Great story, gorgeous settings, superb costumes, fantastic acting, stupendous entertainment!
This film didn't have box office popularity and its a shame. It really is a fantastic film. If you are looking
for a great distraction, I highly recommend this film.

My Favorite Television Show:
Doctor Who. Doctor Who is the longest running science fiction TV series
in the world. It is older than Star Trek and Star Wars. It has a decent following
in the US, but is amazingly
popular in Europe, Australia, and Asia. In the UK it is the #1 television
series and the Doctor is considered a British icon along side of Tea, Crumpets, and the Queen. Doctor Who has been my favorite since I was six years old. My favorite Doctor is David Tennant
(he's charmed me, along with the masses) and yes, my favorite companion is Rose (Billie Piper). I also enjoy Tom
Baker's version of the Doctor. When I was a little girl, my idol was the first Romana, played by the ever- elegant Mary
Tamm.

My Favorite Musical:
Les Miserables. There
is so much media available for the rock opera Les Miserables, its fantastic:
beginning with the audio CD versions (the Original London Cast Recording, Broadway, and Symphonic), the Video Recordings
of the Anniversary Specials, and its original form in French. If you haven't heard the original French version, please
take the time to listen. It’s haunting and beautiful and showcases the brilliance of the human voice.
I still like it best performed on the revolving stage, with me sitting in the front row, Orchestra level, center stage!
