Teaching, or sharing as
I prefer to call it is something I've been doing my entire life. I can remember
helping my friends with their homework in the library. What constitutes ‘teaching’
to me incorporates three special areas: media, learning, and kids.

A dynamic school library program is the beating heart
of the school community and at the center of the curriculum, yielding collaborative efforts across all subject areas. This
helps to promote life-long learning and literacy. For everyone who enters the
library, I am a librarian, teacher, colleague, and friend.

Stop by your library and grab a great read!

Not just for research...
I enjoy books. I love the way they look, feel, smell; the knowledge they
hold within their pages are phenomenal. There is nothing like creak and crackle
along with the blast of scent from fresh pages when opening a brand new book!

The school library
is the school’s hub for accessing information. This is important because
the school librarian is the “resident expert” in locating and retrieving information: electronic or print. Libraries should be equipped with many computer stations for student usage during
instruction time. Local and wide area networks are an excellent form of connecting
classrooms and the library when supplementary research is necessary.

“You learn something
new every day,” is an axiom I find to be the cornerstone of the life-long learning philosophy; a concept I employ in
my everyday life. Learning in a library embodies many different mediums: technology,
books, periodicals, and videos, and so much more! Considering the many issues
students deal with, learning in a safe school environment is imperative. School
libraries are an "educational sanctuary" inside that physically safe place.

Information technology is a vital element to any library program. The amount of recorded information has more than doubled since 1950; an overwhelming statistic. Today’s students must master harnessing and refining information.
Implementing this training into the education process can happen simply through the availability of resources within
the school and cooperative lessons between the classroom teachers and school librarian.
